At the ten-day Craft Malaysia promotion held in Sabah, the handicraft items grossed sales of RM 616,000, surpassing the sales target of RM 600,000 set by the Handicraft Development Corporation of Malaysia Sabah.

Around 63 percent of the total sales were contributed by textile crafts, especially batik. This gives evidence that batik has immense growth potential, especially in Sabah.

During last year's event too, the sales turnover of handicraft items exceeded the target of RM 500,000 and touched RM 544,000.

The value of handicraft products is rising in Sabah with each passing year and experts are hopeful that with increasing number of people getting involved in the craft, the turnover of these items at such promotional events would certainly rise in future.

Most of the batik entrepreneurs who took part in this year's event belonged to Kelantan, while there were only two from Sabah. However, it is expected that participation of Sabahans would also increase in such future events.
