Under the Central Capital Investment Subsidy Scheme 2003, the Union Government has released Rs. 758.3 million for the current fiscal year for Himachal Pradesh industrial units.

This was disclosed by Himachal Pradesh Industry Minister Kishan Kapoor after a meeting with the Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma.

Mr. Kapoor said that the sum has already been given to the Himachal Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation, Shimla, which has been appointed as a nodal agency for distribution of subsidy or incentives to local industrial units, which qualify under the Central Government's Scheme.

He revealed that a Central delegation will shortly pay a visit to Himachal Pradesh to review the possibilities of resumption of Nurpur Silk Mills, with an aim to strengthen the silk industries in the State.

He urged the Union Minister to provide facilities for marketing of State's handloom and handicraft items in national as well as overseas markets.

There has been a considerable rise in demand for handloom and handicraft items over the past few years and hence the State should be provided with incentives and facilities to enable its industries to take advantage of this market, he said.

This would not only help fortify the grass-root level economy but would even help in generating newer job opportunities for village level artisans and skilled workers, he added.
