Import volume of naphtha – a key petrochemical, used as a raw material for production of ethylene fell 12.24 percent year-on-year in June 2011. However, it rose marginally by 4.76 percent when compared with May 2011.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) naphtha imports stood at 1.168 million tons in the previous month, against 1.332 million tons in June 2010 and 1.115 million tons in May 2011.
Naphtha imports in June were valued at US $1.189 billion against $1.132 billion in May, up five percent. The import price in June 2011 stood at $1,017.8 / ton against $726.9 / ton in June 2010 and $1,015.4 / ton in May 2011.
