The 4th 'Batik Cultural Heritage' expo has been officially inaugurated by the Industry Ministry, Government of Indonesia in the country's capital Jakarta.
At the four-day expo batik items of 48 small and medium enterprises from different regions in Java are on display, under the theme 'Indonesia: Global Home of Batik'.
Besides Jakarta, entrepreneurs from West Java's Garut, Cirebon and Tasikmalaya, Banten's Tangerang, Central Java's Surakarta and Pekalongan, East Java's Madura and Yogyakarta in Bantul are also exhibiting their products at the expo, the Director General of the Ministry for Small and Medium Industry, Euis Saedah said while inaugurating the expo.
Chairman of Indonesian Batik Foundation Jultin Ginanjar Kartasasmita said the expo should be considered as a pilot event preceding the annual World Batik Summit, which is scheduled for September 28 to October 2 this year.
