Price growth of textile products export to ASEAN softens

The pace of rise in prices of textile products that are shipped from China to ASEAN countries is softening. Among the textile items, yarn exports witnessed the highest growth in prices during the first half of 2011.

The average price of yarn export was US$ 4.13/kg during the January-June period of the current year, a growth of 37.4 percent over the same period last year. The average export price of cotton yarn worked out to US$ 6.15/kg, up 61.4 percent year-on-year.

The average price for cotton yarn exports to Cambodia was the highest at US$ 6.98/kg, showing a 50 percent rise year-on-year. The price of cotton yarn exports to Myanmar also increased substantially to US$ 6.9/kg, up 57.3 percent year-on-year.

However, the growth in the average price of animal hair and wool yarn exports declined by 4.9 percent year-on-year to US$ 34.44/kg.

The price of exported fabrics increased to US$ 1.61/metre, up 30.3 percent. While the price of cotton fabrics increased by 41.1 percent to US$ 1.95/metre, the price of fabric made from chemical fibre rose by 26.4 percent to US$ 1.1/metre.

Among garment exports, the average price of woven garments witnessed the maximum year-on-year growth of 45.9 percent and rose to US$ 3.1 per piece or set. The average price of cotton based garments rose 35.9 percent while that of chemical fibre made garments increased 42 percent.
