Farmers are getting back to production of wool, owing to a rise in demand coupled with an increase in wool prices, Marius Cuming of Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI), a company owned by over 29,000 Australian woolgrowers, has said.
Speaking at an industry event, Mr. Cuming said that the current wool supply is nearly at 100-year low levels and is about 40 percent of 1990 levels.
He added that intensive efforts are being made by the wool industry in the country to talk to and listen from wool growers.
He further added that consumers world over are moving back to natural fibres, raising the demand for wool. He said that the latest wool production forecast is about 345 million kg per annum.
AWI is making efforts to reconnect with consumers of wool and telling them that it is a natural and eco-friendly fibre, which is affordable and fashionable, Mr. Cuming said.
