Textile exports for July 2011 show positive growth y-oy

Pakistan's textile exports have shown a positive growth during July 2011, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) data. The country's textile exports grew to US$ 1.121 billion, which is a rise of 14.22 percent over July 2010's exports worth US$ 982.007 million.

However, the textile exports during the first month of the current fiscal that started on July 1, 2011 plummeted by 15.26 percent, compared to US$ 1.323 billion achieved in June 2011.

Amongst the items contributing to positive textile export growth during July this year, raw cotton exports registering a rise of 1022.9 percent grew to US$ 11.521 million against July 2010's exports of US$ 1.026 million. The exports of the commodity also indicated a rise of 17.38 percent over June 2011's exports of US$ 9.815 billion.

Likewise, cotton yarn exports grew by 3.29 percent from July 2010's US$ 112.664 billion to US$ 116.368 billion in July this year.

Cotton cloth exports registered a rise of 12.28 percent during July 2011 as against July 2010, while yarn exports excluding cotton yarn grew by 530 percent, towels by 13.53 percent, readymade garments by 29 percent, knitwear by 10.73 percent, made up articles other than towels and bed wear by 21.89 percent, tents, canvas and tarpaulin by 54.09 percent, art silk and synthetic textiles by 40 percent and other textile materials by 30.60 percent.

However, bed wear and cotton (both carded and combed) were the only textile items that registered negative export growth during July 2011 witnessing a fall of 3.13 and 75.97 percent respectively.
