Cotton cultivators in Turkmenistan have begun harvesting the crop. While cotton harvesting has started simultaneously in the Balkan, Mary, Akhal and Lebap provinces, it will begin in Dashoguz province on August 31.
This season, cotton has been cultivated on 550,000 hectares of land and the Ministry of Agriculture is expecting production to be around 1.05 million tons.
Farmers will send their new cotton produce to 157 collection centres, from where it will be sent for processing to 36 ginneries in the country. Experts at Turkmenstandartlary, the main state agency, will be monitoring the quality of cotton.
