More and more countries are importing Turkmen textiles. South Korea has become the latest country to join the list of countries importing Turkmen textiles.

Turkmenistan textiles manufactured by the Halach factory are already being imported by the United States, Turkey, Russia, and United Arab Emirates.

The Halach factory in south Lebap is Turkmenistan's largest textile complex, in operation since 2005. It has fully automated production and employs 160 people. The factory exports cotton yarns.

For 2011 cotton season, the crop is being cultivated on around 550,000 hectares of land. Each region's unique soil and climatic features are specially considered while sowing cotton.

Last year, the country produced nearly 1.3 million tons of raw cotton, compared to the target of 1.05 million tons.

Cotton is cultivated in Akhal, Lebap, Balkan, Mary and Dashoguz provinces of the country. While Upland type medium-fibrous cotton is grown in all these regions, Pima type fine-fibrous cotton is grown only in Akhal and Mary provinces.

The normal harvesting season for the crop extends from August to October. The harvested cotton is sold to both local and foreign companies through The State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.
