A fair showcasing north-eastern handicrafts, organized by the Ministry of Textiles in association with the Northeastern Development Corporation, is being held in Chennai.

Several attractive handmade items prepared from jute and other items are being exhibited at the 12-day long fair, which aims to generate more awareness about the handloom and handicraft items prepared in the north-eastern region.

The fair provides a platform to the craftsmen from remote rural areas in the northeast to promote and showcase their products to people outside the region and thereby augmenting sales of their products.

It also aims at reducing the involvement of the intermediaries in the handloom and handicraft industry and build a direct link between the artisans and the end-consumers.

On display at the fair are jute items, cotton bags, carpets, handmade fabrics with fine embroidery and wall hangings.
