Strong trading in British wool market

The sixth British Wool Sale of the 2011/12 Season was held by the British Wool Marketing Board at Wool House and offered 1,793,864 kilos.

The sale started strongly with strong demand across the range of types resulting in a clearance of 98%.

Compared to the last time sold:

Pick and Supers 2 - 5% dearer

Halfbreds 2 - 5% dearer

Crosses 2 - 7% dearer, except Hogs which were fully firm

Cheviot Discoloured 5% dearer, others Sellers Favour

Radnors 2 - 7% dearer

Welsh 4 - 10% dearer

Blackface 2 - 6% dearer

A farmer run organisation, the BWMB was established in 1950 to operate a central marketing system for UK fleece wool, with the aim of achieving the best possible net return for producers.

It is the only organisation in the world that collects, grades, sells and promotes fleece wool and the only remaining agricultural commodity board in the UK.
