High demand for coarser wools was observed at the North Island wool sales last week.
About 87 percent of the 11,272 bales on offer were sold at the sales.
Major currencies were trading at 2 percent lower compared to their rates during the previous sale on September 15.
The price of coarse crossbred fleece increased between 1 and 2 percent. The price of long oddments rose by 3 to 5 percent and that of short oddments also rose by 4 to 6 percent. However, the price of shorter types declined by 2 to 3 percent.
The price of fine crossbred shears, which formed the bulk of the offering, decreased by 1.5 percent, but the price of fine crossbred fleece was stable.
The demand was especially from China and Western Europe, in addition to New Zealand and Australia. There was also some demand from India, Middle East and the United Kingdom.
