Dalgety takes wool to the world, Landmark

The name “Dalgety” is set to reappear as a force in the world wool trade, as Landmark launches its new wool export business, Dalgety Wool Exports.

The addition of the wool export business will complement Landmark's existing investments in the wool industry in wool broking, storage, handling and logistics and will provide further reach into the wool value chain, according to Landmark general manager agency operations, Cameron Hall.

“Becoming a direct wool exporter will enable Landmark to benefit from closer relationships with global processors and consumers and as Dalgety Wool Exports grows its operations, Australian woolgrowers will benefit from increased competition in the marketplace,” Mr Hall said.

“Timing is everything; we've been considering this business for a while, so the recent announcement from Elders Limited that it was exiting the wool export market space has meant an ideal opportunity to bring our plans forward.”

Cameron Hall is also well aware of the importance of returning a wool industry icon to daily use, given the Dalgety name was part of the Australian industry from 1846 to 2001.

“The wool export business will be a significant investment, so it is only right that the name it uses will be one that was synonymous around the globe with high-quality Australian wool for decades,” he said.

“Landmark has been increasing its broader international linkages to the wool trade through work such as the development of its Wool4 wool production to retail system and we are well placed to invest additional capital in this industry.

“The world wool market is strong, with increasing demand for wool as a highly attractive and versatile fibre. On top of the already mature markets such as Europe, increased wealth in Asian countries such as China and India is driving this demand, with processing companies seeking us to supply wool directly to them. We have worked toward this goal, so we will supply and develop these opportunities to the fullest extent.

“It's very clear - Dalgety Wool Exports is the right brand, with the right product, at the right time for the Australian industry.

“We will also have the right people; Landmark has secured the services of Mr John Roberts to head up the Dalgety Wool Exports team. John has over 20 years' experience in wool exports and will join the company in early October, so we are confident his knowledge, relationships and proven ability will enable this business to succeed,” Mr Hall said.
