Uzbekistan plans to seek investment of US$ 1.7 billion to implement 55 textile projects during 2011-15, according to Uzbeklegprom, the state association for the production of light industry goods, which produces about 90 percent of Uzbekistan's textiles.
Around 150 projects have been implemented in the textile industry since Independence with foreign investment of US$ 1.8 billion, Uzbeklegprom said.
Last year, about 27 enterprises were started with foreign investments worth US$ 119.4 million in the textile industry. By 2011-end, around 28 new textile companies are expected to become operational at a cost of US$ 150 million.
Currently, Uzbek textile manufacturing units have a capacity to produce 373,000 tons of cotton yarn, 280 million sq m of cotton fabric, 82,000 tons of knitted fibres, 167 million pieces of apparel and knitwear and 71 million pairs of hosiery.
