Turkey's first textile museum – The Merinos Textile Industry Museum – would open in Bursa on Oct. 14.

According to Bursa Mayor Recep Altepe, the museum, spread over an area of 7,000 square metres, will showcase the affluent textile history and cultural legacy of the north-western province.

Turkey's north-western province of Bursa is known for the presence of large number of textile companies, and it would now house Turkey's first “textile industry museum” at the historic Merinos Park, where the premises of reinstated Merinos Spinning Factory is also located.

The premise symbolises the textile industry in Bursa. It also happened to be a hub for wool fabric production in Turkey. Afterwards, Bursa continued to be Turkey's textile hub.

Stating that Bursa also established itself as a global hub for silk fabric, Mr. Altepe said that later on Bursa applied same norms for sale of its premium quality wool fabric in international market.

Mr. Altepe said while the citizens would recollect their memories of Bursa being a symbol of textile industry in the country, foreigners visiting the museum would have an opportunity to discover the city's heritage.
