China has imposed anti-dumping duty on caprolactam (CPL) imports from the US and EU. CPL is a synthetic polymer which is widely used in the manufacturing of textiles.

The Ministry of Commerce's decision is based on a six-month investigation on CPL imports from the US and EU. The investigation concluded that China's domestic industries have suffered “material injury” due to CPL imports from these countries.

The anti-dumping tax on CPL imports would be applicable for five years beginning October 22, 2011.

CPL imports from DSM Chemicals North America would attract a duty of 2.2 percent, while imports from Honeywell Resins & Chemicals LLC and the BASF Corporation would be subject to an anti-dumping tax of 3.6 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. A uniform anti-dumping tax of 24.2 percent will be levied on imports from all other US companies.

As for the companies form EU, DSM Fibre Intermediates B.V. and six other firms have been subjected to an anti-dumping duty in the range of 2.3 and 4.9 percent. All other EU companies will face a levy of 25.5 percent.
