Matress and bed linen specialist, Bekaert Textiles, has launched high-tech textile products under the name Medi Tiss.
The new range of textiles, designed specifically for the care and hospital sectors, includes smart mattress covers that can alert nursing staff when a patient leaves his bed or dependent.
The Senso Tiss mattress covers won the 12C tech Innovation Award at Belgium's Expo 60+ fair. These mattress covers are made using a three-dimensional fabric that has sensors to detect and signal when a patient is in or out of bed. Besides the healthcare sector, the mattress covers also have many applications in home automation.
Medi Tiss product range is created and designed to optimize bed comfort and it focuses on the welfare of both young and old alike, at home and in hospital. Mattress covers have a moisturizing function, a three-dimensional knit structure to prevent bedsores, and Purotex technology to avert house dust mite (HDM) allergy and asthma.
Bekaert, located in Waregem municipality in the Belgian province of West Flanders, employs 1100 people worldwide and has an annual turnover of 160 million euros.
