Keen on promotion of khadi industries in the State, the Orissa government has directed Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) to speed up the work in respect of the khadi and handicraft mall that it is to be set up in Bhubaneswar in association with the Khadi and Village Industries Board.
The mall is proposed to be set up on the grounds of the Khadi and Village Industries Board functioning in Bhubaneswar's Kharavel Nagar area.
IDCO has been directed to hire a professional architect for preparing the designs of the proposed multi-storied mall offering different facilities. A whole range of handloom and handicraft items alongside khadi products would be put up for display and sale at the mall.
IDCO has been directed by the State government to ensure optimum utilization of the space available and also to leave adequate open space to facilitate parking and other activities.
The Khadi Board would function as the main operator of the mall and would allow trustworthy societies and businesses functional in the field of khadi and handloom to set up their outlets in the mall after proper investigation.
