Chinese market top destination for US cotton

The Chinese textile industry was the biggest importer of US cotton in 2010.

China became the largest export market for US agricultural products in 2010, according to Economic Research Bureau of the US Department of Agriculture.

US agriculture exports to China reached US $17.522 billion in 2010, accounting for 15.1 percent of the overall US agricultural shipments.

In 2001, US exports to China from the sector totaled to only $1.939 billion in 2001, accounting for just 3.6 percent of its global agricultural shipments.

China maintained the position of the largest single overseas market for US soybeans and cotton in 2010.

Exports of US cotton to China stood at 1.06 million tons in 2010, accounting for 36 percent of its total cotton exports and in turn, China was the biggest importer of US cotton.
