India-based textile firm Spentex Industries Ltd. has decided to produce cotton in bulk in Ethiopia after the success of its trial run.
Speaking to fibre2fashion Mr. Sitaram Parthasarthy, Director–Works, Spentex Industries Ltd., said, “CLC Industries Plc, a subsidiary of Spentex, has about 25,000 hectares of land in Ethiopia, which has been taken on lease from the Ethiopian Government. We did an initial small trial run on 2,500 hectares and we got a good harvest and now we are going ahead to carry out the production in bulk.”
“Although we have already spent close to USD 4 million on it, the return on investment (ROI) cannot be estimated because it depends on a lot of factors, as the matter is related to agriculture,” he stated.
He further revealed, “The bulk cotton will be supplied to a spinning plant being set up by CLC Industries Plc in Ethiopia.”
“Spentex has major presence in India, Uzbekistan, Czech Republic, Germany and Turkey with world class manufacturing facilities coupled with excellent network of offices. And, we see ourselves placed very well even in Africa after this development,” he added.
