Indonesia's textile exports to the Asean region has been growing during the last few years. In fact, the market share of Indonesia's textile and textile products in the Asean region grew by around 10 percent in the last two years.

Meanwhile, there has also been a noticeable improvement in the country's textile performance, as textile products exports from Indonesia have also gone up from US$ 300 million to US$ 1.3 billion.

The coming into force of the Asean Free Trade Agreement, which stipulated reduction or withdrawal of import duties, was the main driver that shot up country's textile exports to Asean countries.

The agreement provided Indonesia with a great opportunity to tap the emerging Southeast Asian markets like Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, where people have a greater purchasing power.

The textile trade in the Asean region is expected to increase further with the establishment of an Asean Economic Community in 2015.

Indonesia's trade with Asean partner nations like South Korea and Japan is also likely to grow.

Presently, United States with a 37 percent share constitutes the biggest textile export market for Indonesia, while European Union, ASEAN and Japan follow next with a 14 percent, 10 percent and 7 percent share, respectively.
