About 40 major companies from 11 countries participated in the Textile Expo Uzbekistan 2011 which concluded recently in Tashkent. Besides Uzbekistan, the firms belonged to Republic of Belarus, China, France, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland, Russia and Turkey.

The Indian Council for Development of Cotton Textile Exports (TEXPROCIL) participated for the first time in the Exhibition, which saw about 20 percent of foreign participation, with the domestic companies accounting for the rest.

The motto of this year's exhibition was “The Best Uzbek Textile – Successful Competition to Textile from China and Turkey”. While some foreign companies showed willingness to buy Uzbek textiles, other companies looked for establishing partnerships with local firms for supplying quality chemicals and dyes, yarns and accessories to them.

Domestic firms showcased wide range of high-quality textile products. Ready-made garment and knitted items were also presented at the event by local companies. The exhibition also presented foreign embroidered fabrics and textile art appliqué, sewing accessories, knitting machinery and synthetic fibres.

A special Buyer Programme was also held for the first time to increase foreign participation in the event, especially visitors from all regions of Uzbekistan, the CIS and other countries. This yielded positive results and companies from India, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine and other countries showed interest in Uzbek textile products and in developing business partnerships.
