We have recently introduced eco-compatible materials, such as CornLeaf yarn made with a biopolymer obtained from Ingeo polylactic acid (PLA), a 100% renewable vegetable source material, and polyester yarn produced from post-consumer recycled polymer. And we are now working on developing new multi-functional yarns incorporating various performance characteristics achieved through a combination of additives. For the outdoor furnishings sector, for example, we are developing a solution-dyed, flame retardant, UV ray-resistant, antibacterial yarn. Additionally, a flame-retardant yarn manufactured from recycled PET polymer is presently in the design stage.”
Innovation was also discussed by Aldo Tempesti, president of TexClubTec: “NANOITALTEX is a successful TexClubTec initiative in Italy that has become a major annual event for the textile sector. Our intent has always been to bring research institutes, universities and enterprises together and give them an opportunity to talk to each other. The ultimate goal is to provide businesses with important tools for innovation.
“Besides nanotechnology, which has always remained central to our meetings, starting with the 2006 conference we have added seminars on intelligent textiles, dividing them into two distinct sessions: a more technically oriented session, dedicated to research and innovation, and a more market-oriented session, dedicated to markets and strategies.
"This has been a winning solution, considering the great response NANOITALTEX has received during the last several years. Innovation and research and development, together with the development of human resources, are among the main forces that will enable all sectors of our industry to face the ever greater competitive challenge posed by the low-cost labour countries.”
