A leading Vietnamese textile firm has been penalized for breaching environmental pollution norms.
As revealed by the provincial People's Committee, Vietnam's northern Nam Dinh Province based Son Nam Textile Company (Sonatex) was penalized a sum of VND 75 million, equivalent to US$ 3,570, for releasing untreated waste water in the surrounding areas.
In addition to the penalty, the Committee directed the company to introduce pollution management measures within 10 days from the date of the order.
Test results indicated that the proportion of pollution in the waste water was 10 times higher than the permitted levels. However, Director of the firm, Nguyen The Minh, firmly stated that no pollution was detected earlier.
The firm's present release is estimated at around 300 cubic metres of waste water each day.
