It is necessary for Turkmenistan to further strengthen its cotton products export potential through enhancing geographical partnerships, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has said.

Taking stock after the completion of the first International Cotton Fair that was held in Ashgabat, Turkmen President termed cotton production as a significant sector for the growth of the country's agro-industrial sector.

He added that cotton is not only the main raw material for the nation's textile industry, but it is also the most valuable export commodity. Hence, Turkmenistan should increase the geography of partnerships to build up the country's export potential, he added.

For the purpose, Turkmenistan will have to develop necessary infrastructure for the agro-industrial sector by using modern technologies, advanced management practices and scientific techniques, he stated.

At the meeting, issues relating to cooperation with leading global companies specializing in the production and sale of cotton, fabric and other products were discussed at length. The meeting received good response from overseas entrepreneurs, according to Deputy Prime Minister Mammetnyyaz Nurmammedov.

At present, Turkmen cotton products are imported by China, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Korea, Singapore, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and other countries.
