Ube unable to operationalise new Thai CPL capacity

Japan-based Ube Industries which manages a caprolactam (CPL) plant in Thailand had recently expanded capacity of the plant by 20,000 tons per annum.

However, the plant which had been shut down for maintenance as well addition of new capacity has not been able to properly make operational the new CPL capacity.

Speaking to fibre2fashion, a UBE official said that due to several unexpected problems, they have not yet been able to reach operational capacity rates of 130,000 tons per annum”.

He added, “Our plant is current running at capacity rates of 110,000 tons per annum, which was the name plate capacity before the new 20,000 tons per year capacity was added.”

The CPL plant located in Rayong province in Thailand had been taken off-stream on November 1, 2011 and had been brought on-stream in mid-December.

UBE Industries based in Yamaguchi - Japan, operates four caprolactam plants globally, two in Japan and one each in Thailand and Spain.
