Chilean firm invests in new fibre research

Monarch Group, a Chilean company owned by Aste and Magnasco families, has diverted 8 percent of its annual sales turnover for further research on new fibres.

The Group, which entered the Chilean domestic textile industry around four years ago, has added value to its brands through innovation in the fibres.

With assistance from the National Copper Corporation of Chile (Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile or CODELCO) and under certification from the University of Chile, the Group innovated a copper fibre that it used initially in the production of socks, and later on in the manufacturing of women's innerwear.

The company plans to use copper fibres for production of all those clothing items that are in contact with body parts prone to bacterial infection.

The firm is currently conducting research on three new fibres. The first of these is a fibre that stops the development of cellulite. This fibre is in the final stages and the company intends to launch it during the next three months, according to Roberto Aste, Production Manager of the company.

The second fibre has UV filter, helpful in completely stopping harmful solar rays from touching the skin. The company plans to use this fibre in the manufacture of T-shirts.

Research is also going on at the company on an anti-aging fibre that contains crystals of gold and remains of marine organics.

Aldo Magnasco, Commercial Director of the firm, said the company intends to produce garments that were once unthinkable. The company's next innovation is likely to be made keeping climate change in mind.

The whole world is experiencing hotter summers and colder winters due to the affect of climate change. This provides an excellent opportunity for the textile industry to innovate suitable clothing.
