Nepali handicraft entrepreneurs constitute NTIS Cell

With an aim to formulate annual plans and programmes for handicraft items, Nepali handicraft entrepreneurs have constituted a Nepal Trade Integration Strategy (NTIS) Cell.

Four items, including Pashmina and woollen products, are on the priority list of the Cell, which would give suggestions and formulate an annual plan for promotion of these items.

Pursuant to the NTIS programme, the domestic Pashmina industry has received a yarn-testing machine from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

However, the woollen product industry has not yet benefited from any similar product promotion programme.

During the first two quarters of the current fiscal, Nepal's handicraft exports grew at a rate of 39.66 percent to Rs. 2.08 billion, up from exports of Rs. 1.49 billion achieved during the corresponding period of last fiscal.
