Cotton ginners across Gujarat will observe a two-day strike against the decision to ban cotton exports from India.

The Indian government had earlier on Monday banned cotton exports with immediate effect and also disallowed shipments of those who had registered cotton export contracts too.

“The ginners will strike on March 7 and 8. The demand is to completely revoke the ban on cotton exports”, Mr. Anand Popat, Secretary - Saurashtra Ginners Association (SGA) told fibre2fashion.

He added, “If the demand is not accepted we will contemplate a further course of action in a meeting of SGA and the Gujarat Ginners Association on March 9”.

There are around 1,000 cotton gins in Gujarat which will stay shutdown for two days.

Following the announcement of the ban, prices of Shankar-6 variety of cotton have crashed from Rs 35,025 per candy (1 candy = 355 kg) to Rs 33,175 per candy on Tuesday.
