Chinese textile and garment exports crashed in February 2012 from its previous month, according to customs statistics.

China's textile and apparel exports nosedived to US $9.712 billion in February 2012, down a massive 54.87 percent from January and also fell 7.01 percent from a year ago.

In January, textile and apparel exports had stood at $21.48 billion, of which garment shipments scored $13.8 billion, up a nominal 3.5 percent year on year and textile exports realized $7.68 billion, down 6.8 percent.

In February 2012, exports of textile yarn, fabrics and textile products fetched $4.26 billion, a rise of 5.90 percent from a year ago, but down 44.45 percent from January.

Shipments of apparel and clothing accessories reached $5.44 billion, down 15.10 percent from a year earlier, and crashed 60.64 percent from the previous month.

In the first two months of 2012, China's total textile and apparel exports completed $31.23 billion, down 2.59 percent year on year.

China's domestic market too was not optimistic. February retail sales of 50 key large retailers fell 2.78 percent year on year, of which sales of clothing products fell 5.53 percent.

The growth rate in retail sales of clothing products declined 21.72 percent from January to February.

The decline in both exports and domestic demand has cast a shadow over the market. Future consumption situation of textiles and apparel remains confused.
