The Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) has announced that it has exempted the textile industry, including prime users and those having self-generation capacity, from load shedding.
The decision was taken on the instruction of the Federal Government and no power has been cut in textile sector since April 10, 2012, Ejaz Rafiq Qureshi, Spokesman and Director General (EM&C) Pepco, said.
He added that the textile industry would, however, decrease their running load by 25 percent during peak hours by turning off air conditioners and other extra items that consume power.
If any particular textile unit faces load shedding, it could be due to constraints at the local power distribution companies (Discos), the Pepco spokesperson clarified.
Pepco is following up with Discos on a daily basis and is pursuing them to follow the instructions given by the Government regarding exemption of textile industry from power cuts, the spokesperson said.
The decision by the President to exempt Pakistan's textile industry from power outages was later endorsed by the second National Energy Conference.
