• In addition, a new supplement to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is available on which basis in future special items such as tents, prams, office chairs and rucksacks can be certified according to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
Testing for alkylphenol ethoxylates:
Similar to the existing exclusion of Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO), within the framework of the certification of environmentally-friendly premises according to the OEKO-TEX Standard 1000, the successful examination for Nonylphenol, Nonylphenol-(1-9)-ethoxylate, Octylphenol and Octylphenol-(1-2)-ethoxylate will also be a pre-requisite for future product certification according to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
The following limit values apply to all four product classes:
Nonylphenol: 100 ppm
Octylphenol: 100 ppm
Total Nonylphenol-(1-9)-ethoxylate: 1000 ppm
Total Octylphenol-(1-2)-ethoxylate: 1000 ppm
The tests have been in process since the publication of the new OEKO-TEX criteria. In order to grant companies a reasonable time period for any necessary alterations to their production processes, the requirements relating to Alkylphenol ethoxylates will only come into force on 1 April 2013 after a one-year transition period.
With the production-related certification according to the OEKO-TEX Standard 1000, this requirement to relinquish APEOs in production, has been consistently implemented since 2005 through the substitution of problematic agents.
