Chinese cotton imports continued to surge in the first five months of 2012 and rose stupendously in May when compared with a year erlier, but fell marginally from its previous month.
China imported 501,900 tons of cotton in May 2012, up 357,400 tons or 247.4 percent year on year, but down 7,800 tons or 1.54 percent from April 2012.
In the period, September 2011 to May 2012, China totally imported 4.2529 million tons of cotton, an increase of 2.1622 million tons or 103.43 percent year on year.
In the first five months of the current year, it imported 2.5793 million tons of cotton, a rise of 1.3734 million tons or 113.9 percent year on year.
