Chinese exports of yarn decline in Jan-May

While on one hand, Chinese imports of yarn recorded a jump, exports of the commodity fell in the first five months of 2012, according to China Customs.

China’s import and export of yarn registered 2.1915 million tons from January to May 2012, up, 3 percent year on year, while value amounted to US $7.9 billion, down 4.9 percent.

Among them, export volume fetched 1.361 million tons, down 7.3 percent from a year earlier. Export value marked $4.92 billion, down 13.1 percent. Average export price was $3.61/ kg, down 6.24 percent.

Import volume registered 830,000 tons, an increase of 25.9 percent and value scored $2.98 billion, an increase of 12.5 percent year on year.

Out of the various varieties of yarn, exports of cotton yarn created the largest decline in January to May, export value fell 22.5 percent year on year.
