China's cotton imports surge in July

In July, China imported 406,000 tons of cotton, which was 248,900 tons or 158.46 percent higher compared to July 2011, according to the Chinese customs statistics.
 
However, the imports were 70,000 tons or 14.7 percent lower than the quantity imported in June.
 
Since the beginning of the cotton season in September last year, China has so far imported 5.134 million tons of cotton, which is an increase of 2.767 million tons or 116.87 percent over the same period in previous season.
 
During the first seven months of the current year, China imported 3.4612 million tons of cotton, showing a rise of 1.978 million tons or 133.39 percent compared to the same period last year.
