The District Industry Centre (DIC) in Punjab’s Ludhiana has extended the benefits of several textile industry schemes to the handloom sector.

The DIC has made a list of 250 handloom units functioning in the district and the state textile department will issue identity cards to them, which would be essential for availing the benefits.

Mr. Mahesh Khanna, General Manager DIC said that under the Mill Gate scheme handloom operators would be able to buy yarn at a subsidized price, which would normally be around 10 percent less than the market price.

In addition, the handloom unit operators would also be covered under the Health Insurance Scheme at a nominal cost.

There is also a provision of extending credit to powerloom unit owners at lesser interest rates, Mr. Khanna said.
