The Chennai Silks, based in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has woven the most expensive saree in the world.

The world record setting saree is worth Rs. 4 million and it weighs around 8 kg. It is intricately embellished with more than 12 precious gem stones and metals, such as gold, diamond, emerald, ruby, platinum, silver, yellow sapphire, sapphire, cat’s eye, topaz, pearl and coral.

The crafted masterpiece portrays the replica of the famous artwork ‘Lady Musicians’ by the great Indian painter Raja Ravi Verma.

The 11 painting series, woven on the saree, feature every small detail of the renowned women choir illustration, right from the curly hair of the ladies to the jewels they are wearing.

The saree took nearly seven months to make and was designed by around 30 handloom weavers.

The opulently dazzling creation, fit to be worn by queens, was unveiled by popular South Indian actresses Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Shobhana and Jeeva.

Established in 1962, The Chennai Silks has proven to be a shopper's delight in wedding sarees and kanchipuram silk sarees for all generations.
