Argentine textile sector shows strong growth in July

Textile and clothing sector production in Argentina increased by 11 percent year-on-year in July 2012, registering a rise for the fourth consecutive month, the Ministry of Industry said.
 
During the month, the installed production capacity of Argentine textile sector rose by 10 percent, the Ministry said.
 
In the first half of 2012, Argentina’s textile imports declined by 15 percent year-on-year, while apparel exports dipped 12 percent year-on-year.
 
Since 2002, textile and garment production has increased by 158 percent, creating 120,000 employment opportunities in Argentina, the Ministry said.
 
Industry Minister Débora Giorgi said the aim for the textile sector is to attract more investment so as to boost domestic production as well as exports.
 
She said the Government is supporting the domestic market and protecting it from unfair competition.
 
Under the Government’s Strategic Plan, Argentina will strive to increase its textile output at an annual rate of 10 percent and generate 250,000 new job opportunities in the process.
