Global cotton production is estimated to touch 24.84 million tons in 2012-13 season, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The 2012-13 cotton consumption is projected at 23.549 million tons. This will see ending stocks at 16.258 million tons, a rise of 10.13 percent year-on-year.

Global cotton stock-consumption ratio in 2012-13 is pegged at 69 percent, which will be a new record.

During the year, China’s cotton production is likely to be around 6.75 million tons, showing a decline of 7.46 percent year-on-year. Cotton consumption is expected to be down by 4.88 percent year-on-year to 8.491 million tons.
