Textile exports from Pakistan grew by 12.91 percent year-on-year in September 2012, according to the trade statistics released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The country’s textile exports surged from US$ 0.981 billion in September 2011 to US$ 1.108 billion in September this year.

Accordingly, textile exports from Pakistan touched US$ 3.271 billion during the first quarter of the current fiscal that began on July 1, 2012, up 2.95 percent over exports of US$ 3.178 billion made during the corresponding period of last year.

Product-wise, exports of cotton yarn surged by 39.27 percent year-on-year, yarn by 27.06 percent, cotton cloth by 5.3 percent, towels by 4.78 percent, tents by 48.04 percent, readymade garments by 10.23 percent and that of other textile materials by 76.80 percent during the July-September quarter.

On the other hand, raw cotton exports plummeted 54.02 percent year-on-year, cotton carded by 95.02 percent, knitwear by 10.27 percent, bedwear by 14.61 percent, made-up articles by 1.29 percent and that of art silk and synthetic textiles by 15.82 percent, the PBS data showed.

According to experts, if continuous and adequate power supply is ensured to domestic textile units, it could further increase the sector’s exports in the coming months.
