China's cotton yarn imports skyrocket in Jan-Oct

The imports of cotton yarn by China have surged by over 70 percent year-on-year in the first ten months of the current year, according to the data released by the General Administration of Customs.
 
Last month, China imported 136,500 tons of cotton yarn, registering an increase of 39.66 percent year-on-year, but a dip of 8.11 percent month-on-month.
 
During the same month, China exported 37,000 tons of cotton yarn, up 54.01 percent year-on-year and 3.95 percent month-on-month.
 
Thus, net imports in October were 89,400 tons, showing a rise of 34.47 percent year-on-year, but a decline of 12.33 percent on a month-on-month basis.
 
During the first two months of the current cotton season, which began on September 1, 2012, China imported 264,100 tons of cotton yarn, achieving a year-on-year growth of 50.6 percent. The country also exported 72,700 tons of cotton yarn in September-October 2012, growing at 53.18 percent year-on-year.
 
The amount of cotton yarn imported by China from January to October 2012 rose at a phenomenal 70.01 percent year-on-year to 1.213 million tons. During the same period, China exported 356,000 tons of cotton yarn, up 7.46 percent year-on-year.
