The textile industry in Pakistan has been assured of 36-hour a week gas supply by Dr. Asim Hussain, Adviser to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources.

At a meeting held at the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) in Faisalabad, Dr. Hussain said gas supply situation to the textile sector would improve after January 2013 as 25 percent of the total gas supply would be reserved for the textile industry during the current winter season.

He assured six-hour a day gas supply to the textile sector in Punjab from January 2013 to lessen the impact of power load-shedding on the industry.

Speaking separately to reporters at All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) office in Lahore, Dr. Hussain said the decision to supply 36-hour a week gas supply to the textile industry was taken after meeting officials from Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) and representatives of the textile industry.

He added that the country would import Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to overcome the shortage of gas.

In addition, the Government is also working on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, Dr. Hussain said.
