After witnessing several months of fluctuation around zero growth, China’s textile and garment exports have finally started showing positive trend.

From January to November 2012, Chinese textile and clothing exports grew by 2.08 percent year-on-year, according to the latest data of Chinese customs. This is a slight increase over the 2 percent year-on-year growth rate witnessed during the first eight months of 2012, which clearly shows that Chinese exports have started showing positive trend.

The slow growth in China’s textile and clothing exports during the earlier months of the year was due to a sharp decline in global textile and apparel demand.

While textile and apparel imports by the US and the EU declined by 1.11 percent year-on-year and 8.05 percent y-o-y, respectively, during the first three quarters of 2012, imports by Japan rose by mere 0.99 percent y-o-y, according to relevant statistics.
