Mr. Shahzad Ali Khan, regional chairman of Punjab region of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), told fibre2fashion, “The supply of electricity and gas has been disconnected to the textile mills of Punjab and it has become a disaster for the industry.”
“The textile industry in the region has been completely shutdown due to the cutoff in supply of power and gas,” he informs.
According to him, the industry is losing around US$ 30 million a day and “in nine days we have lost US$ 270 million.”
Informing about the meeting of APTMA representatives with Pakistan Government, he says, “Everyday, we are requesting the Central Government to restore the electricity and gas and they are asking for 2-3 days time.”
“We even had a meeting with the Minister of State for Water and Power, Mr. Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi, but electricity has not been restored so far,” he reveals.
