Chinese textile producers to build warehouse in Malaysia

January 02, 2013 (Malaysia)

Eyeing expansion of their operations in Malaysia, 37 members of China Textile Industry Association have resolved to set up a textile warehouse complex in Bandar Baru Kijal, Kemaman, Malaysia at a cost of RM 500 million.

The three-storied complex would have 42 shop lots, of which 37 would be made available to association members on rental basis, while the remaining 5 would be for local businessmen, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, the Menteri Besar of the state of Terengganu, revealed during a media briefing.

Mr. Ahmad said the state government consented to the proposal in principle after the Chinese textile producers paid a visit to Bandar Baru Kijal with an aim of transforming it into Southeast Asia’s biggest textile hub.

He said starting 2013, the Chinese producers would directly send textile goods to the warehouse from China through Kemaman-based Teluk Kalong port.

Mr. Ahmad said the state government is also building a RM 140.7 million textile complex in Bandar Baru Kijal, which is likely to commence commercial operations in April 2013.
