Heimtextil kicks off new season with exciting furnishings

Textile wallpapers are enjoying a comeback – with graphic and ornamental décors and with pleated or fringed appliqués. Many patterns are inspired by nature, with bamboo stalks, stone surfaces, minerals, woods, leather and feathers depicted both realistically and in abstract form on the wallpaper. The interplay of matt and gentle metallic shimmer and a patina effect lend an air of elegance to wallpapers. A new touch is provided by decorative elements made of plastic which can be arranged in countless combinations on the wall or ceiling and then painted over. Specialist firms offer lining paper that reduces heat loss within the room, helping to save energy, while fabric wall coverings feature an insulating lining.

Patterns for the floor

Stripes, checks, herringbone and ribbed designs predominated among the rugs and carpets being presented at Heimtextil. Collections continue to include deep-pile rugs made using thick candlewick yarns with rectangular, round or square cross-sections. There are also rugs with motifs in the style of abstract painting, as well as classic patterns in a used look. These rugs are woven in a way that creates the illusion that they have been used. Heimtextil also identified products that were actually “used” as a trend, with worn-out sweatshirts and jeans being reworked in up-cycling processes to create unique carpets, bathroom textiles, beanbags and cushions.

Airy privacy protection: transparent fabrics

Contemporary window decoration influences a room without appearing heavy or bulky, and the range of models being presented at the trade fair was more colourful than ever before. There were delicate voiles, devore fabrics with open-work patterns, light fabrics with both small- and large-format prints and embroidered motifs using yarns of various thicknesses. Lace fabrics are back, and there is an impressive array of net curtains of various thicknesses and laser-cut fabrics with all-over patterns that appear to have been cut out with shears.

Large selection of rods, rails and trimmings

Heimtextil 2013 revealed that curtain rods are becoming finer and more elegant. They are now more frequently made from stainless steel or are chrome plated, and boast sleek, well-designed end pieces and mounts. Many models include rods with inner profiles for sliders, while a number of rods are attached using transparent Plexiglas mounts, giving them the appearance of floating freely within the room. Now, rods with round and rectangular cross-sections have been joined by octagonal rods. Panels for the concealment of curtain rods are available in every colour and in stainless steel, while trimmings can be obtained in countless colours, shapes and sizes.

Roller blinds, vertical blinds and panel curtains are becoming ever more popular

Manufacturers produce privacy and sun protection systems to the exact specifications of the consumer's windows, and they come in an endless variety of fabrics, colours and patterns – from delicate voile and rustic textured fabrics to blackout fabrics. Pleated blinds were at the top of the charts at Heimtextil, due not least to the fact that they are also suitable for difficult window shapes. Pleated blinds comprised of honeycomb-shaped chambers were particularly successful.
