Textile exports from Pakistan rise 8% in July-Jan FY'13

Stimulated by a marginal recovery in demand from key EU and US markets, textile and clothing exports from Pakistan grew to US$ 7.509 billion during July-January 2012-13, registering an increase of 8.33 percent from exports worth US$ 6.928 billion made during corresponding period of previous fiscal.
 
According to the data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), export of ready-made garments surged by 12.51 percent year-on-year during the seven-month period, while that of towels and knitwear grew by 18.02 percent year-on-year and 0.92 percent year-on-year, respectively.
 
Cotton yarn exports increased by 32.44 percent year-on-year, yarn other than cotton yarn by 31.48 percent, cotton cloth by 12.16 percent, made-up articles by 6.81 percent and other textile material by 56.80 percent, during the period under review.
 
Items with negative export growth included raw cotton, whose export plummeted by 56.57 percent year-on-year, bed wear by 3.8 percent, cotton carded by 84.53 percent and art and silk by 17.73 percent in July-January 2012-13.
 
As per the PBS Statistics, textile and apparel exports started perking up since September 2012 when it posted a year-on-year rise of 12.91 percent. Subsequently, textile and clothing exports posted 10.54 percent, 23.54 percent, 12 percent and 8.72 percent growth during October, November, December and January, respectively.
