Feb '13
More than 1,000 pieces of premium Persian hand-made silk items prepared in three of the Iran’s leading carpet producing cities – Qom, Tabriz and Isfahan – are on display at The Persian carpet exhibition going on at Milad Tower in Tehran.
The featured collection includes items like luxury tableau rugs and carpets and nomad rugs.
The fair would go on till March 1, 2013.
Having its roots in ancient Persia, carpet-weaving art is one of the most renowned expressions of Iranian heritage with over one million weavers depending on it for their livelihood.
The country each year produces about five million square metres of carpets to cater to domestic as well as export market.
Carpets produced in Iran are shipped to over 80 countries in North and Latin America, Europe and some other parts of the world.
Meanwhile, hand-woven rugs constitute to be one of the country’s major non-oil export items, accounting for around three-fourths of the total global output.
