Aussie wool prices continue to fall

It was a good week for skirting types, which appeared to attract stronger demand than the fleece types, as seen in the pass-in rate of 6.9% for Merino skirting’s compared with 11.4% for Merino fleece.  As mentioned above, crossbred wools did better than Merino types and achieved increases in all MPGs.  Oddments continued the pattern of recent weeks; and were generally unchanged, or slightly up, except in Newcastle where there were increases that reflected the better style offering

It was a week in two parts, with very strong buying for Italy in Newcastle, but China remaining dominant over all centres.  There was good support from India and Korea, but support from Europe was more subdued, apart from the demand from Italy in Newcastle.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 56,868 bales are currently rostered for sale.  Present estimates for the following two sales (Weeks 37 and 38) are 47,950 and 50,800 bales, respectively; an increase of 15.7% over the three sale period when compared with last year.
