'Wool House' celebrates the importance of wool
Mar '13
A unique exhibition celebrating and emphasizing the versatility and utility of wool as an important fibre in today’s world has opened at London’s Somerset House.
Titled as 'Wool House', the ongoing exhibition aims to highlight the use of wool in different modern contexts, such as fashion, interior decoration, art and crafts.
Curated by interior stylist Arabella McNie, the expo includes three rooms dedicated entirely to fashion with an exclusive live tailoring space for Savile Row tailors, displaying finest woven fabrics from the likes of Norton and Sons, Hardy Amies and Kilgour.
The other two rooms feature a dress from Jonathan Saunders, a Giles Deacon jacket, and an original bomber jacket as well as an Irish Guards drummer’s uniform by designer Christopher Raeburn.
Other than the rooms displaying wool-based fashion exhibits, the event also allots separate individual spaces for the interior design community which includes exclusive room sets from Donna Wilson, Kit Kemp and Rifat Ozbek.
Other woollen delights include a huge wool art installation commissioned from the acclaimed Dutch tapestry artist Claudy Jongstra, a Roger Oates runner and a Pantone style rug representing international carpet manufacturers.
A series of wool-led designer talks, events and a programme of activities with interactive workshops are also scheduled to go on till March 24, 2013, when the event ends.
The exhibition is a part of The Campaign for Wool project, which is a cross-industry initiative, convened by HRH The Prince of Wales.
